Prices checked on 21 October 2026. All prices include VAT.
A made-to-measure toughened glass splashback costs between about £80 and £680 in the UK, depending on its size and finish. The most common size behind a hob, 900 mm wide by 750 mm high, costs £103.60 in clear glass, £175.60 in a design, £197.09 in a colour of your choice, £246.00 in silver mirror and £284.50 in antique mirror from DIY Splashbacks. Those prices are for the glass itself, cut to your exact size and delivered for you to fit yourself, which takes about an hour with a tube of silicone.
Glass splashback prices by size
Every splashback we make is toughened safety glass with polished edges, cut to the millimetre. Price is driven almost entirely by the area of glass and the finish on it. The table gives the current price for ten common sizes; use the price calculator on any product page for your own measurements.
| Size (width × height) | Clear glass 6 mm | Design 6 mm, patterns & images | Coloured 6 mm, any colour | Silver mirror 5 mm | Antique mirror 5 mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 600 × 600 mm | £78.80 | £119.80 | £126.72 | £153.00 | £176.00 |
| 600 × 750 mm | £86.00 | £136.00 | £147.15 | £180.00 | £207.50 |
| 900 × 750 mm (typical hob panel) | £103.60 | £175.60 | £197.09 | £246.00 | £284.50 |
| 1000 × 600 mm | £98.00 | £163.00 | £181.20 | £225.00 | £260.00 |
| 1200 × 600 mm | £107.60 | £184.60 | £208.44 | £261.00 | £302.00 |
| 1500 × 600 mm | £122.00 | £217.00 | £249.30 | £315.00 | £365.00 |
| 2000 × 600 mm | £146.00 | £271.00 | £317.40 | £405.00 | £470.00 |
| 2400 × 600 mm | £165.20 | £314.20 | £371.88 | £477.00 | £554.00 |
| 2400 × 700 mm | £184.40 | £357.40 | £426.36 | £549.00 | £638.00 |
| 2400 × 750 mm | £194.00 | £379.00 | £453.60 | £585.00 | £680.00 |
The largest single panel we make is 2400 mm in either direction. A longer run is made as two or more panels that butt together; a 3 m run of worktop, for example, is usually two 1500 × 600 mm panels, which would cost £434.00 in a design finish.
What a glass splashback costs per square metre
Because small panels carry the same cutting, toughening and packing work as large ones, the price per square metre falls as the panel gets bigger. As a rough guide, for panels between 1200 mm and 2400 mm wide:
- Clear glass: about £110–£150 per m²
- Design glass (marble, stone, tile and image designs): about £210–£260 per m²
- Coloured glass (any colour): about £250–£290 per m²
- Silver mirror: about £325–£365 per m²
- Antique mirror: about £380–£420 per m²
A 600 × 600 mm panel works out at roughly 30–60% more per square metre than the figures above, so if you are comparing quotes, compare the price for your actual size rather than a per-metre rate.

How glass compares with the alternatives
Third-party trade guides put a tiled kitchen splashback at £15–£60 per m² for the tiles plus £40–£90 per m² for a tiler, with most tilers charging a minimum half-day or day (£150–£300) however small the job. A single hob area tiled by a tradesperson therefore usually lands between £200 and £400; a 3 m run between £300 and £550. Having a glass splashback supplied and fitted by a kitchen fitter typically adds £80–£200 in labour on top of the glass.
Fitting the glass yourself is where the saving is. For one hob panel, a self-fitted design splashback at £175.60 is usually cheaper than paying a tiler's minimum charge, and it has no grout to clean or re-seal. On a long run of inexpensive ceramic tiles, tiling can still cost less in cash if you do it yourself; the trade-off is a day's work, grout lines behind the hob and a surface that is harder to keep clean. Our glass splashback vs tiles comparison goes through the differences in detail.
How to keep the cost down
- Stop the panel below the sockets. A 600 mm high panel often clears a socket row entirely, saving £30 per cut-out.
- Price a chimney hood both ways. Three rectangular panels around the hood avoid the £60 shaping charge and the joins sit behind the hood; one shaped panel gives a single seamless piece. The calculator will price either in seconds.
- Choose clear glass over a painted wall for a budget kitchen; it protects the paint and costs about half the price of a coloured panel.
- Measure once, carefully. Toughened glass cannot be cut once made, so a remake is a full-price panel. Our measuring guide shows the 2 mm deductions to use.
- Order a £15 sample first if you are choosing between colours. It is a small cost against a panel you will live with for twenty years.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a glass splashback cost behind a cooker?
A 900 × 750 mm panel, the usual size behind a 900 mm range cooker or hob, costs £103.60 in clear glass, £175.60 in a design, £197.09 coloured, £246.00 in silver mirror and £284.50 in antique mirror, delivered for you to fit.
Is a glass splashback cheaper than tiles?
For one hob panel fitted by a tradesperson, usually yes: a self-fitted glass panel costs less than a tiler's minimum charge. For a long run of cheap ceramic tiles that you lay yourself, tiles can be cheaper in cash, but glass is faster to fit and has no grout to maintain.
Does the price include fitting?
No. Every splashback is supplied for you to fit yourself with neutral-cure silicone, which takes about an hour. That is why the glass costs what it does; a fitter would typically charge £80–£200 to do the same job.
How much are socket cut-outs?
£30.00 each on clear, coloured and design glass and £35.00 each on mirror glass. Give us the centre of each socket and whether it is a single or a double.
Why do mirror splashbacks cost more?
Mirror glass is a different, more expensive base material and needs extra care in toughening and handling. Antique mirror has a further hand-finished patina, which is why it is the dearest finish.
Can I get an exact price before I order?
Yes. Enter your width, height, cut-outs and options into the calculator on any product page and the price updates instantly. No account or email is needed.
How long does a glass splashback take to arrive?
Stock sizes are typically delivered in 1–2 weeks. Made-to-measure sizes, shapes and cut-outs typically take 2–4 weeks, because the glass is cut, finished and toughened to order.
