Antique Mirror Splashbacks

The most in demand splashback design at present are antique mirror splashbacks but up until now is has not been possible to toughen/temper antique mirror. By using pioneering techniques we are now able to offer antique mirror splashbacks, made from toughened glass, made to any size or shape.

Authentic Antique Mirror is caused over time by oxidation of the mercury backing used to make a mirror reflective. Modern antique mirrors though are reproductions, the aging process has been sped up using chemicals to replicate the oxidation cause to a mirror over time. Tempered Antique Mirrors are also reproductions where we have used techniques to replicate the oxidation on a mirror splashback. Unlike authentic antique mirrors though, which will of course have gathered surface damage over time, our antique mirror splashbacks for kitchens and bathrooms will have defect free surfaces and modern beveled edges.

Order times and delivery

All Antique Mirror splashbacks are made to order (usually take 3-4 weeks to manufacture).

Any shaped splashbacks, splashbacks with holes and made to order/bespoke sizes typically take 3-4 weeks as long as they pass quality control. Shaped panels take the longest duration as the manufacturing process is more complex and made using a CNC. In stock sizes (without holes, rectangular or square shaped). Lead times can vary throughout the year so if you would like to know our current lead times prior to ordering please just give us a call.

Measuring & fitting

Measure the finished opening in millimetres at three points and send the smallest. Allow 2–3 mm clearance at each side.

Fix with the adhesive and sealant option, or screws through pre‑drilled holes. Step‑by‑step guides are in Tutorials.

Delivery & lead times

Every panel is made to order. Rectangular panels usually take 3–4 weeks; shaped panels and panels with holes take the longest because they're cut on the CNC and go through an extra inspection.

If you're working to a fitter's date, call us before ordering and we'll tell you the current lead time.

Care

Warm water and a soft cloth. No abrasives or scouring pads. The Easy Clean coating makes grease wipe off with less effort; it isn't a substitute for cleaning.

Mirror that hasn't been toughened cracks behind a gas hob. For years that kept mirror on the wall above the mantelpiece and out of the kitchen.

Questions

Asked most often.

Can it really go behind a gas hob?

Yes. The glass is toughened and heat resistant to over 400 °C. Non‑toughened mirror would crack; this won't.

Can you cut holes for sockets and switches?

Yes. Choose the number of cut‑outs above and send a template or the socket positions; we cut them on the CNC. Holes are the same diameter as the glass thickness.

How long will it take?

Rectangular panels are usually with you in 3–4 weeks. Shaped panels and panels with holes take the longest. Call for the current lead time if you're working to a date.

What's the largest size?

2400 mm in either direction as a single panel. Longer runs are made as matched panels with a neat join.
