Aged silver mirror scattered with soft foxed spots and gentle clouding, like a mirror that has quietly aged for a hundred years. It is toughened glass, cut to size to the millimetre, and safe behind any hob, including gas.

Measuring & fitting

Measure the finished opening in millimetres at three points and send the smallest. Allow 2–3 mm clearance at each side.

Fix with the adhesive and sealant option, or screws through pre‑drilled holes. Step‑by‑step guides are in Tutorials.

Delivery & lead times

Every panel is made to order. Rectangular panels usually take 3–4 weeks; shaped panels and panels with holes take the longest because they're cut on the CNC and go through an extra inspection.

If you're working to a fitter's date, call us before ordering and we'll tell you the current lead time.

Care

Warm water and a soft cloth. No abrasives or scouring pads. The Easy Clean coating makes grease wipe off with less effort; it isn't a substitute for cleaning.

A foxed mirror splashback that's safe behind your hob

Foxing is the scatter of soft brown and grey spots that appears as the silver on an old mirror ages. It's the look people search reclamation yards for, and it brings warmth, light and a bit of history to a kitchen. The trouble is that real foxed mirror is ordinary glass, and ordinary mirror cracks from the heat behind a hob.

Our foxed mirror splashback gives you the same aged look on toughened glass, so it's heat resistant and safe behind gas, induction and ceramic hobs. The foxing sits on the back of the glass, so the front is smooth, wipe-clean and has no grout lines.

Foxed mirror glass, cut to size

Every splashback is made to order in our own UK workshop and cut to your exact width and height, to the millimetre. Enter your sizes above, then add cut-outs for sockets and switches or shaping to fit under a cooker hood or around a window. Each panel is taken from a 2.5 metre wide pattern, so even long runs behind a range cooker have no obvious repeat. The foxing is at true scale, so it looks the same on the wall as on a real aged mirror.

How it looks in your kitchen

Foxed mirror suits almost any kitchen. With painted shaker units in cream, sage or putty, oak worktops and brass taps it gives a relaxed, country house feel. In a dark kitchen with black or navy units it bounces light around and softens the room. And behind a range cooker or under a chimney hood it makes a real focal point. Because it reflects light, it also makes a small kitchen feel bigger and brighter.

Foxed or antique mirror?

Our antique mirror splashback has heavier, cloudier antiquing in several colours. The foxed mirror is lighter and brighter: mostly clear silver with spots and soft veils of age, closer to a mirror that has been foxed naturally. For an even subtler look, see our distressed mirror splashback, or our plain, bright mirror splashback. You can browse every style in our antique mirror splashbacks range.

Foxed mirror splashback FAQs

Can a foxed mirror go behind a gas hob?

Yes. Ordinary mirror, including reclaimed foxed mirror, can crack from the heat of a gas hob. Ours is toughened glass, which is made to withstand that heat, so it is safe behind gas, induction and ceramic hobs.

Can you cut foxed mirror glass to size?

Yes. Every panel is made to measure, so you just give us your width and height in millimetres. We can also add socket cut-outs and shape the glass to fit under a cooker hood.

How do I clean a foxed mirror splashback?

Wipe it with a soft cloth and warm soapy water or glass cleaner. The foxing is on the back of the glass, so cleaning won't wear it away.

How is it fitted?

Choose adhesive and sealant or screw fixing from the options above. Adhesive gives a clean finish with no visible fixings.

How long does it take?

Each foxed mirror splashback is made to order in our own UK workshop and is usually dispatched in 3 to 4 weeks. For more ideas, see our guide to kitchen splashbacks.

Toughened

Mirror you can put behind a gas hob.

Mirror that hasn't been toughened cracks behind a gas hob. For years that kept mirror on the wall above the mantelpiece and out of the kitchen.

Every panel we make is toughened safety glass, heat resistant to over 400 °C, so the splashback can run the full length of the worktop without a break for the cooker.

Made to measure

Cut to the millimetre, in our own workshop.

  1. You measure

Width and height in millimetres, plus a template for any sockets or shaping.

  2. We cut

Rectangles by hand; shapes and holes on the CNC, to your drawing.

  3. Polish

Every edge polished with a 1.5 mm bevel, so it's safe to handle and clean to look at.

  4. Toughen

Heat‑treated for strength, then checked flat before it goes any further.

  5. Finish & deliver

Inspected, crated and sent out, usually within 3–4 weeks.

Questions

Asked most often.

Can it really go behind a gas hob?

Yes. The glass is toughened and heat resistant to over 400 °C. Non‑toughened mirror would crack; this won't.

Can you cut holes for sockets and switches?

Yes. Choose the number of cut‑outs above and send a template or the socket positions; we cut them on the CNC. Holes are the same diameter as the glass thickness.

How long will it take?

Rectangular panels are usually with you in 3–4 weeks. Shaped panels and panels with holes take the longest. Call for the current lead time if you're working to a date.

What's the largest size?

2400 mm in either direction as a single panel. Longer runs are made as matched panels with a neat join.
